CHAYLEN ANDOLINO
Graduate Student
Chaylen was raised in Corning, New York (home of all of the glass, ceramics, and lab equipment you could ever imagine!) Fun fact: she grew up on Pyrex Street (yes, like the dishes). She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Bucknell University in 2017. Outside of her studies, she played softball and worked in Dr. Mitchell Chernin’s lab studying the prevention of bladder cancer via modulation of cell signaling pathways by heat shock protein inhibitors. Following her time at Bucknell, she joined the Nutrition Science program at Purdue and entered the Teegarden lab, where she currently investigates the role of lipid metabolism in breast cancer cell migration—a critical step of the metastatic cascade. Some of her research goals include:
· To determine the role of energy production from cytoplasmic lipid droplets (CLDs) in the promotion of mammary cancer cell migration
· To determine the role of CLD-associated proteins in the promotion of mammary cancer cell migration
· To determine the role of the most active metabolite of vitamin D, 1α,25-duhydroxyvitamin D, on mammary cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastasis via regulation of CLD turnover
When she is not in the lab, she enjoys reading, creating makeup looks, doing yoga, and catching up with her family.
